Hi everyone! My name is Jeffrey Shen (He/Him/His) and I am a 3rd year Mathematics major with a Concentration of Secondary Education Certification (CalTeach program) at UCI. I hope to become a High School AP Calculus teacher after graduation. I am the President of USLA and I hope that through this program, students like me can be connected to each other throughout the entire country!

Hello all! My name is Madeline Lee (she/her/hers). I am in my 4th year at UC Irvine as a Biology/Education major in the CalTeach program. As I enter this career of education, I find such great innovation and support from my CalTeach Community here at UC Irvine and can only imagine what more support others can receive and share through nationwide networking with the help of USLA! I am ecstatic to see what this year has in store for us aspiring educators!

Guadalupe Lombera

Greetings! I am beyond excited to serve as your DEIB Chair. Outside of teaching and science courses, I also have a love for the interdisciplinary humanities and social justice. In my free time, I like to help my local church and spend time with my parents. After college, I hope to continue to make a positive impact in my local community, teach high school biology, and inspire students to dream big!

Founder/Advisor:

Fernanda Marrero Hi

Fernanda is a master's student (Ed.M.) at the Harvard Graduate School of Education in the Education Policy and Analysis program. She is a first-generation college graduate of the University of Houston ('21) where she majored in Earth Science (B.A.) and Sociology (B.S.). She also received a Texas teaching license (life science 7-12) through teachHOUSTON.

During her time in teachHOUSTON, Fernanda was involved with the teachHOUSTON Student Society (President 20-21, PD Chair 19-20) and worked as a Teaching Assistant with Dr. Perri Segura for the Knowing and Learning Math and Science course for four semesters. She participated in Noyce internships in the summers of 2019, 2020, and 2021 and was a recipient of the Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship.
